My wifes grandmother worked at the Gretna Factory dring the great war period, she was Elizabeth Gleghorn and was from Seaham Colliery in County Durham. Another Seaham lass was killed in an explosion at the factory. She was Martha Hannah Beech. She is the only woman listed on any of the WW1 war memrials in Seaham. She was only 18 years old.
Regards to all.

Good morning Old-Ted, we will probably have a record on our database regarding the accident. We have a few books in our shop that may have information relating to the accident. Gorden Routledge has a great knowledge of the factory and his work is taken from the records that are held in archives relating to the factory. If you are in the area when the exhibition opens (Easter 2010) let me know and I will go through the exhibition with you.
Kind regards,
RS.
Visited the exhibition on Tuesday 13 April. Reason for visit was because my mother was one of the girls who worked there during the 1st world war, she was 16 years of age. Also I lived in Eastriggs from 1933 to 1945 and was at school in Eastriggs and Annan Academy.
I discoverd that the exhibition had photos of school classes from the opening of the school from 1917. I found photos of clsses with myself on , also ones with my brother and sister on.
The exhibition is very interesting, not only for the 1st world war but also for the second world war which brought back many memories of my time in Eastriggs.

Interested in the comment about archives. Do you have much in the museum or do you mean county archives, Kew, etc. Gordon has been very helpful when I've contacted him, especially given the diverse nature of the enquiries.
